About Cares

The Cares Alliance is a nonprofit organization serving Central Texas by connecting neighbors, identifying needs, and fueling generosity.

Our Story

The Cares Alliance began in 2016 when Robert and Michelle Fischer founded what was then called RJF Team Cares. Their vision was simple: to be a force for good by raising awareness of local needs and creating safe, secure ways for the community to support those in need.

As the effort grew, other organizations and businesses joined the mission, forming The Cares Alliance Board and expanding its reach across Central Texas. From the beginning, Luke and Mary Hawthorne played a vital role as key partners, helping shape the direction and increase the donations given to local recipients.

Twice a year, The Cares Alliance hosts a Community Voting Initiative (CVI). Residents nominate families, schools, or organizations in need. The community votes, and donations are distributed to the top recipients. It’s a simple, transparent process that keeps generosity local and personal.
